The Mother magazine

About Us

The Mother magazine was conceived by Veronika Robinson www.veronikarobinson.com in September 2001, with the first issue coming out in February 2002. The magazine is a family-run business based in rural Cumbria, UK.

This small, dedicated and passionate team aim to live the ethos of The Mother magazine. They work from home….use a local printing company, Reeds Printers, and live an ethical, animal-free lifestyle.

Veronika Robinson

Veronika Robinson, founder, editor and co-publisher:

Born in Australia in 1967, Veronika Robinson is one of eight children. Blessed with a mother who thought ‘outside the box’, she had a good start in life in terms of optimal nutrition, and natural health care and healing. She was raised in Nature (editorial TM36). Her mother had three unassisted home births which is one of the reasons Veronika was inspired to write The Birthkeepers: Reclaiming An Ancient Tradition.

Her career background before starting The Mother magazine included many years in the child-care and the education field, including Montessori and Steiner, as well as working as a journalist. She brings the best of both these worlds, as well as her deep interest in metaphysics and personal growth, to her passionate work as editor of The Mother magazine.

In 1995 she set up the National Waterbirth Trust in New Zealand, when she was disappointed by the lack of information available to women at the time. With her husband Paul, they created the Peaceful Pregnancy CD (click here) with affirmations and music for a peaceful birth.

When her daughter, Bethany, was birthed naturally at home, in water, it was a catalyst for inspiring other women towards natural parenting choices.

Their children, Bethany and Eliza, were raised in-arms along the model of The Continuum Concept. They shared the family bed for some years, and were breastfed full-term. Their story of child-led weaning was included in the documentary Extraordinary Breastfeeding, which aired in February 2006. It has since been shown around the world, and extracts have been included in other tv shows. Veronika has appeared on many tv shows to promote the cause of breastfeeding.

She’s an ardent supporter of raising children to develop a strong immune system, and is passionate about inspiring parents to look into the cons of vaccination. Each issue of The Mother magazine contains an article on vaccine awareness.

Paul Robinson, co-owner, assistant editor and proof reader

Paul is the father of four lovely daughters, Harriet and Hannah, now adults, from his first marriage ~ and Eliza and Bethany, from his marriage to Veronika. Most of his work has involved communication of one sort or another. He’s been a professional actor, broadcaster, singer and ventriloquist. He never moves his lips when he’s writing. He’s had a strong interest in personal and spiritual growth since he grew up (when he was in his 40s), this includes everything you can think of in relation to holistic, conscious parenting. In particular, Paul’s very keen on the idea of his children (and everyone else, come to that) looking deeply within, and learning to truly think for themselves. He’s passionate about The Mother, and is deeply moved and inspired by the many letters Veronika receives from women who say that the magazine has changed their lives
